I grew up in Evanston Illinois and am the oldest of three boys. My father was the director of the law library at Loyola University of Chicago. My interest in law was sparked at an early age from meeting the professors my father worked alongside with. Even today I remember being totally absorbed while listening to them speak about the challenging cases they worked on as practicing lawyers.

I graduated from Evanston Township High School in 1987, attended the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor for my undergraduate studies, and completed my degree in Political Science in 1991. In the fall of 1991, I entered Loyola University of Chicago School of Law to begin my legal training. I excelled academically, making the Dean’s List every semester and finishing 11th in my class. I also received American Jurisprudence Awards for receiving the highest grades in four classes: Criminal Law, Insurance Law, First Amendment, and Federal Civil Rights Legislation. At graduation, I received the Leadership and Service award along with my degree with honors.

During law school, I worked as a law clerk at some of the most prominent plaintiff’s law firms in Chicago and found there, and in my classwork, that I am skilled in identifying the legal theories and doctrines which allow injured people to receive fair compensation for injuries that they suffer due to the misconduct of others. Most importantly, I found that I enjoy being able to assist families dealing with the most difficult circumstances in their greatest time of need. Finishing law school, I chose to enter the field of personal injury law.

Today, I focus my practice solely on complex personal injury and wrongful death lawsuits in which I represent victims and their families who have been wronged through negligence. I have not and will not represent insurance companies. In addition, Because of my strong belief that the legal system must protect our most vulnerable citizens, especially nursing home residents, I devote a substantial portion of my practice to the representation of the victims of nursing home abuse and neglect.

I am a past co-chair of the Tort (Personal Injury) Litigation Committee of the Chicago Bar Association and was an Adjunct Professor of Law at Loyola University Chicago School of Law, where I taught legal research to first-year law students. I am an active member of the Nursing Home Litigation Group of the American Association for Justice where I regularly attend continuing legal education seminars addressing issues of special concern to nursing home residents and their families.

I am a published author and have written on the topics of Illinois nursing home abuse and neglect, wrongful death litigation, accident reconstruction, causation in personal injury cases, and insurance bad faith litigation. I have also lectured at continuing legal education seminars for lawyers.

As part of my belief in educating the public about their rights under the civil justice system, I host the radio show, Fighting for What’s Right, which can be heard on Saturday mornings on WYLL, AM- 1160 Chicago and WIND AM-560 Chicago.

I live in Evanston with my family, including my son, Patrick, and my daughter, Caroline.
